Assignment 5: Evaluating a User Interface
Familiarize yourself with the basic concepts of evaluation by reading the relevant chapters in the textbook.
Detailed Instructions
In this assignment we will continue our exploration of the interface for a self-service checkout kiosk. The goal is to create an evaluation study of one of your designs created in the previous assignment.
- Decide on which of your two designs you will evaluate.
- Design an evaluation using the DECIDE framework that compares your interactive menu design with the traditional way of ordering a meal at a restaurant. You need to decide what you are going to measure and what research questions you are trying to evaluate. You must evaluate at least two research questions. You may choose to do either an in the wild field study or a controlled usability experiment. Your study must include a short survey of less than 10 questions as one of the data collection tools.
- You need to collect data and then write a detailed research report as a blog entry. Your research report must clearly state your research questions, your method of evaluation, your collected data (properly formatted in tables or charts so that they are easily understood), your interpretation of the results, and your conclusion that specify how you will use the results to improve your design.
